Commander of the Faithful Imam Ali Bin Abi Taleb said " Taciturnity hides the flaws, and reduces sins" which means that the less you speak the less you commit sins, which will hide your flaws. Its clarified in the Commander of the Faithfuls tradition (as), because if someone talked too much he would slip about other people, and start back biting, and say things which might be wrong, and this is were the sin would be. But if he kept silent and spoke taciturnly, then he would be away from the thing that could reveal his flaws and increase his sins, which is ( talking too much). It was also narrated that Imam Ali ( pbuh) said: " He who talks too much, sins too much " i.e. a man should not be prattling, and make the words that come out of his mouth as few as possible. Because if he said something which was not accurate, it could lead him to bad consequences, or it might become a stumble in his life where he might get stuck and never be able to pass it. That is why Commander of the Faithful Imam Ali Bin Abi Taleb said :" Taciturnity hides flaws, and saves stumbles." He also said (pbuh) about not talking too much :" Words are under your control as long as you do not say them, once you do, you become under their control, so save your words like you save your own money and gold" In addition, taciturnity keeps fortune from vanishing, because a man might say something that might be unpleasant and God "the Glorified " would punish him for it. His punishment could be through taking away his fortune, and give him indignation instead. Imam Ali (pbuh) said:" How many words have taken away grace, and brought indignation " Over and above, a man should not interfere in other peoples business, or be very curious asking about it. It was narrated that Imam Ali (pbuh) was passing by a man who was curiously speaking, so he (pbuh) stopped and told him :" You are dictating your protecting angels your own book (deeds) to God, so speak your own business ". Anyone knows that his talking too much or not is part of his deeds will never say anything that is not his business, and will only speak meaningful words, that is what Imam Ali clarified when he said: " He who knows that his words are part of his deeds, will only say meaningful words" because if talked badly, it would erase his good deeds, so his words are very few and meaningful.
